Joint Industry Committee for National Readership

Joint Industry Committee for National Readership
= JICNAR
A committee formed in 1968 to run readership surveys, although continuous research and surveys have been undertaken since 1956. The committee comprises members of the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising, the Incorporated Society of British Advertisers Ltd, and the Newspaper and Periodical Contributors Committee. Its research is based on a stratified random sample involving 28 000 adult interviews in a continuous survey lasting 12 months. The research covers all major UK publications and is published twice yearly. It is heavily dependent on demographic data, but it also includes regional variations, television viewing, cinema attendance, commercial radio audiences, and special interests.
